A couple of wee cinema reviews:

We bought a zoo

I enjoyed the book of the same name, which was set in Britain and was more about the business aspect and the challenges that brought. This adaptation moves the action to America, and its pretty crappy. What happened Cameron Crowe?

This means war

Chris Pine and Tom Hardy as CIA agents both chasing the same gal (reese Witherspoon). Some ok action sequences and the banter between the two is good, but nothing special.

Wanderlust

Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston escape the rat race to live in a comune like environment. Mediocre comedy, although there is one scene with Rudd which is near hysterical. Me, and the people around me were pretty much in hysterics.

City of Life and Death

A chinese film with subtitles about the 1937 Japan siege on the Chinese capital of Nanking. Its in black and white but was originally shot in colour and desaturated in post production. This gives it a look that although masks the amount of blood spilt it gives it that authentic look of the time it is based and I think it worked really well. Its a hard film to watch due to ruthlessness of the Japanese soldiers on the people of Nanking. Reading up on the history, apparently 20,000 women were raped and 300,000 died. This film should be watched just to highlight what went on in Nanking.

Default The Pirates! In an adventure with scientists

It had the songs Swords of a thousand men - Tenpole Tudor, London's Calling - The Clash & Ranking Full stop by The Beat, add that to some brilliant Aardman animation, a superb voice cast and some really funny adult humour.....whats not to love about this film:-)

Loved the sign on one of the pubs in old London town, Live Sports...Cockney baiting

The Muppets

Not surprised Frank Oz and co disowned it. Strained comedy and a human cast who all looked a little embarrassed to be there. Raised a couple of sniggers and I laughed at the little baby muppets, but then I always do.

It's not The Muppets that I grew up with.

Two thumbs down.

Max Payne.

It was shite and Wahlberg had the same range of facial expressions as Kristen Stewart.

High Lane

French horror/thriller taped off the horror channel. Not bad. It was straightforward, probably low budget but there were some good fights and some scary climbs.

Broken Lines - Pretty miserable indie film, but Bettany's performance is outstanding. It's good to see him back 'acting', rather than simply leaping around, holding random weapons and grunting.

Terminator Salvation

I watched this today because the other time I tried I gave up about 40 mins in. As expected it was pants. There was a lot of yelling which passes for acting in a McG film and Ron Howard's daughter didn't have anything to do except look pregnant and concerned. Sam's accent was wobbly at times, not so you'd notice or expect anything else. As for Bale...I can't fathom ranting over a scene in this film, it's unworthy and forgettable.

Due Date: Passed the time, that's the best thing I can say about it. Had some funny moments.

National Treasure: Utter pish. How the feck does that guy keep getting gigs? He clearly doesn't give a rats ass any more. The banter was that awful forced banter that ruined Iron Man 2 and the relationship between Asshat and female asshat was just so forced he might as well have raped her.

And it still would have been shite.
