Watched a fair few whille the forum's been down:

Winters Bone - Jennifer Lawrence's oscar nominated turn. She is very good. Story is a bit meh, and it really makes you not want to live in back-water America.

Battle Los Angeles - cos I like Aaron Eckhart, but this was one boring boring action film.

I capture the Castle - read the book recently. That's better but this is a faithful adaptation with a winning turn from Romola Garai. Well cast I thought.

Moneyball - Great to see Jonah Hill and Chris Pratt is straight roles, and Brad Pitt on top form. A really snappy script and moments of tension and joy, all about a sport I don't know much about.

Friends with kids - predictable sort of romantic comedy with a little bit of an edge.

Lucky Number Slevin. A largely great cast completely wasted in a derivative Tarantino ripoff 1/5
Ghost Rider-Spirit of Vengeance. Cage puts in one of his more eccentric turns. Aside from that it's dull. And really crap 1/5

Tilda Swinton played her part really well.
I thought it was a good film. Simply but effectively shot and harrowing. A reminder that parents are not always entirely responsible for bad kids - some kids just come out that way. There is some oversimplification there, but I think the point holds. Yes, Tilda was brilliant. She was robbed of a nomination for Oscar.

A Dangerous Method

pros: Stellar cast, beautifully shot, gorgeous locations and costumes if you like that sort of thing.
cons: Boring and dry as a bone. Mortensen as Freud seemed to do nothing other than suck on his cigar and make pithy observations. Fassbender is good as usual, Knightley's Russian accent didn't convince and her character was terribly awkward to watch.
Cronenberg, you normally entertain better than this, disappointing.

happythankyoumoreplease.

Fuckingawfulbullshitcrapaboutgrowingupandbeingatwa t.

Seriously, why did I watch this? Written by a doofus from the terrible How I met Your Mother, just beyond dire. It is however the proud owner of two of the worst lines I have ever heard, and they are in the same conversation.

stupid girl; "I sing"

stupid boy; "Songs?"

stupid girl *smirk "Yeah songs, what do you do?"

stupid boy"I write"

stupid girl"Words?!"

stupid boy *bigger smirk "yeah words"

Get to fuck, total drivel.
I just remembered another piece of direlogue

Another stupid girl; *crying"Were both so messed up"

Different stupid boy; "so lets clean each other up"

Worst film I have seen for a very, very long time.

I echo these thoughts on the above film. I wanted to smash my face into a wall every time he swore and then told the kid not to swear. I thought it looked bad in the trailer but gave it a go...urgh.

Country Strong

erm, enjoyed this more than I expected to.Gwyneth Paltrow plays a superstar country singer with issues- goes on tour with husband and up and coming stars. Bit of a closet country music fan so it might just have been the tunes.

Rewatched Batman Begins and the Dark Knight in preparation for DKR.

I might have liked it when I was 13 and thought that was what being a grownup was. I do like Josh Radnor in How I met your mother (the earlier episodes anyway) but he should stick to acting other peoples words.

I agree.

Well, I dont, Im being polite. I'm not a fan of HIMYM at all.

Hobo WIth A Shotgun

Insane amounts of black-humoured fun. Brilliantly gory and "Daily Mail" baiting goodness. Rutger even manages to do some quality acting amid the carnage, shotguns and manhole cover decapitations. Worth a watch if for nothing else that the School Bus scene.

4/5

King King (Peter Jackson Version)

Again with the too long thing (TDKR I'm looking at you).
It has its moments, all of which revolve around Kong himself. However much of the film is lacking quite badly. The acting, while it doesnt have to be great, it should be at least functional, it all seems a bit too "soap opera".
Special effects, while Kong himself is superb as are the V-Rexs, the rest looks rushed. The Dino chase in particular is amateur looking.
Something else than never seems to get mentioned is the editing, it feels like they did all the Kong bits, then did the rest of the film half-arsed, worst culprit is oddly long insect cave bit, goes on for ages, needed a snip or 12!

Good stuff, like I said, Kong is great, as is the dust up he has, set design, too is very good, 20's New York looks brilliant.

Entertaining, but too bloody long whilst feeling rushed.

2.5/5

It's great, isn't it? For some reason it really got me thinking of Robocop as I watched it. I think the director's style and ideas were quite similar to Verhoeven's.
