Bridesmaids

Although I enjoyed this I think the trailer mislead me into thinking it was going to be a female version of The Hangover but it was more of a funny film about one womens life with few bridesmaids thrown in the mix.

Kristen Wiig was excellent as the lead role.

The Expendables.

It's certainly an 80's throwback action movie, but I wasn't expecting it to be thrown all the way back to a cheapo Chuck Norris flick. A massive cast are largely wasted with a mediocre screenplay full of bad, and badly delivered, one liners. The action scenes are a mess of poor staging and editing and the whole thing reeks of a vanity project for Stallone to pretend he's still 'got it'. He hasn't.

Not without some moments of stupidly entertaining violence and 'splosions but - Sly - Must try harder.

Default The Lovely Bones

Very good Peter Jackson film. Don't know why I didn't watch it before. Normally I don't like films with voice in off, but it was ok in this one. Good photography and main actress. A touch of Jacksons imagination in his vision of heaven. Maybe the end was a little bit predictable.

Default The Last Exorcism

I really didn't know what to expect from this, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It was an intelligent, character driven drama that really had me constantly guessing whether it was an actual possession or not! Right up till the awful, silly ending that spoilt all the good work.

The characters really were the best aspect of the film, surprising for a horror film. The girl seemed so sweet and innocent that I genuinely did not want her to be possessed and the main character was certainly complex yet likeable.

4/5 - not scary but gripping and enjoyable (just ignore the ending!)

In Time

Some interesting ideas, and quite fast paced, but the acting isn't of the highest quality.

The Awakening

Spooky and Suspenseful Britsh ghost story with some good performances and scares. Falls apart a bit when the story all becomes clear.

Arthur Christmas

Took the kids at the weekend, wasn't expecting much from this but really enjoyed it. It was very funny and the voices were good, especially Bill Nighy as Grand Santa.

Nicely done drama with good performances all round. It doesnt exactly stand out but its a decent enough movie with some neat plotting and nice characters. 3.5/5
