This thread is for all those films that you just didn't get all the fuss about.
Whether it be a good film that every slated, or a film you didn't like that everyone else loved, post your stories! Liked by me, hated by everyone: Alien: Resurrection - I liked it, so fuck off! Dilsliked by me, loved by everyone: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - I just didn't get it. Maybe I need to rewatch it. Brief Encounter - Nothing happens. As far as I can tell, the woman has a crush on a stranger, feels guilty, does nothing about it. They share a few coffees!?WTF, it's just so God-damn WET! Get a grip, please! Yojimbo - Again, just bored me. Mental Japanese men running around shouting at each other. Having said that, isn't Zatoichi based on the same story? Loved this! I'll admit that with some of these I may have just missed the point due to them too much 'of their time'. Any takers? |

Liked by me, hated by everyone:
Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace - LEAVE JAR JAR BINKS ALONE!!! Disliked by me, loved by everyone, : The Dark Knight - Well, ok, I didn't dislike it, just thought it was way too overhyped for what it was. I'm more of a Spider-Man person anyway ![]() |

'Shutter Island' bland, boring and it's only redeeming feature is the score. A dreadfully over hyped film reviewed by Scorsese sycophants the world over. The final 'revelatory' ending goes on for way too long and is the first film I came close to walking out of. Awful.
'Superbad' = Supershit, gloriously unfunny and crass from start to end and features Jonah Hill as one of the repugnant characters in modern cinema, like John Belushi's ADD afflicted cousin. 'Avatar' A film about bestiality, watch in awe as the native blue people repeatedly violate the domestic species of their planet with their penis tail head appendages to subvert them to their will. Screw the Unobtanium, shoot the bastards anyway, no wonder Pandora's animals are so hostile. On the other hand. 'Transformers : Revenge of the Fallen' bloated and rushed sure, but no way as bad as it was made out to be, simple case of sequel backlash to an over achieving first film in my opinion. 'AvP : Requiem' Glorious visuals, moody and dark (wrongly criticised in my opinion.), the way an Alien film should be and more in tune with the original three films away from Jeunet's self stylised fourth. Sure it's strictly B-Movie plotting and acting, but solid popcorn fun none the less. 'Lemony Snickett : A Series of unfortunate events' Beautifully dark, cinematic in a live action Henry Selick/Burton mould with enough sly laughs and an evil outrageous turn (In a good way) to keep most adults entertained. Suffered unfortunately from being released in the franchise swamp of kids flicks of the early noughties. On my regular re watch list. A rare gem, the only downside is Jude Law's asinine voice over.

Liked by everyone. Disliked by me.
Paranormal Activity (2007). I appreciate the build up, and I know the whole idea was about creating tension, which it did, a bit, but nothing happened for too long. The fact that in Malta we still have intermissions half way through films also meant that half way through all tension built was killed. The Killer Inside Me (2010). Now I'm a guy up for a bit of bondage fun on screen but this film simply did not work because what was happening wasn't clear. i couldn't understand why this guy was killing everyone. And the ending is ridiculous *SPOILER* How couldn't the police smell the fuel? Liked by me. Disliked by everyone. The Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter (1990). Yes, I know it's not as good as the first one and yes, I know it looks dated, especially the bit where they introduce robots, but the film retains its charm. A child's mind full of fantasy can still travel through Fantasialand regardless of how realistic everything looks on screen. The third one was a bit of a mess though. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003). I know that everyone hates it because they love the original but when I watched this I had never seen the original, and I thought that this was great. Remakes unfairly, even if understandably, always get reviewed according to how they compare to the original instead of how a film stands alone. I found this scary which was the whole point. i haven't revisited and compared to the original but when I first saw it, it worked. I could come up with more examples for both but I'll stop here for now. ![]() |

I too thought that the remake of Texas Chainsaw was very good. One of the best remakes Ive seen actually. The guy who played Leatherface was perfect for the part and it had a pretty high gore quotient. Ive seen far worse films in the horror genre ( Hostel) and really enjoyed this one.
