I thought woman in black was amazing, I don't normally go for horror movies but this one grabbed me until the very end. It's scary but in a good way, much unlike most torture-porn horror films with the barest scrap of a story that classifies as a plot and more blood and guts than genuine scares. This film is different, you jump lots of times throughout and you are always on edge, looking out for the woman in black. Radcliffe gives a good performance in my opinion, not bad for his first role outside the safety of Hogwart's walls. The ending still lingers with me and even when I watched the film again a few weeks later I was still as terrified as I was the first time. I can see why this is proving to be such a sucess, it's a genuine classic horror fillm that proves you don't need gore to make your audience jump in fear. I also highly reccommend reading the book, very different from the film but just as scary.

It's a decent enough period horror but I got to the point where I had got bored of being subjected to so many jumps. After a certain point they don't work anymore. Three of the films biggest jumps all come in a space of about four or five minutes.
Other than it's over reliance on basic scare tactics it's a reasonable watch. 3/5

Thumbs down I totally agree

I totally agree with JB - this movie is beutifully made but it is oh so corny (almost Hammer in genre) - lots of bumps but hardly frightening depsite all those children killing themselves - wouldnt like to be a social worker on that island haha

Good , but there was a much superior BBC adaptation in Christmas 1989 - you can still get it on youtube - Much BIGGER scare at "that scene" and interestingly a different ending . Not sure if either stayed loyal to the book. 3/5

Liked it more than I thought I would, it's a good old fashioned ghost story.

My thoughts too Jay, rather enjoyed it. Proper ghost story, Radcliffe was ok, which is all he needed to be really. Some decent enough scares and plenty of atmosphere.

A solid 3.5/5
