Do you know anyone even remotely like any of the characters in The Hangover? Really?

The whole point of comedy characters is that they are overblown, emcompassing all the unPC behaviour that, in anything other than comedy, would not be accepted. They are not meant to be realisitc; they are tools for humour.

Well you can go one of two ways. You can create ridiculous creations that are funny because they're so ridiculous or you can create characters very close to reality that are funny becuse they're so close to people you actually know. The Inbetweeners falls into the latter category. The Hangover doesn't fall into either.

You're missing the point that one set of characters are American - thus encompassing American humour, and the other set are British. There is a vast difference between British humour and American humour. No doubt Americans watch The Inbetweeners and think, 'Are you kidding me?' As such, they are incomparable.

And as Jay rightly pointed out, you keep harping on about knowing people like those in The Inbetweeners, but you are very young, therefore this isn't surprising. Grow up a little bit and you will meet people like Phil and Alan. Unfortunately.

Thumbs up

Disagree,

I think people need to be more liberal and see that we are a more developed society to not laugh at negative stereotypes.

It wasn't the fact that there were negative stereotypes that made them unfunny for me. It was the fact that neither film was really that funny that made them unfunny for me.

See, i was young once and I never met anyone like the characters in The Inbetweeners. I can't add to the Hangover debate as it just never appealed to me. I have a low threshold for obnoxious morons.

I think all-male comprehensive schools like the one I was at can't help but produce them. xD
