Is it. Now I understand what Fortunes was getting at with a comment about Prometheus in 3D affecting the composition. I don't see many films in 3D. Hope you're wrong though Fortunes. I want it to look great not weird.

Went to see it again with the family (still loved it) in regular 2D and it looked great. The weird framing that I found distracting in IMAX was mostly gone too. Perhaps its just the more overwhelming screen size.

The problem I see with Prometheus Moz is that it's shot and composed in 2.35:1 and will have to be reframed in the considerably less wide IMAX format. Basically you'll be getting a pan and scan version of the film like the old VHS days before 16:9 tvs became standard.

My main issue with 3D is that it completely destroys any sense of epic scale. It fools your brain into seeing everything as the size it appears on the screen. Thus, in big epic long shots, actors just look like really tiny people, and toy helicopters swoop through a model of a city.

There are compositional issues with it too, but its more theoretical than a simple issue like cropping the image to fit a different format.

Saw this yesterday and I will give it 4 out of five - although only just.

In short, once the film kicks into gear it never lets up and the characters mostly are a joy to spend 2-plus hours with. This film however belongs to The Black Widow and The Hulk. Ruffalo especially giving a standout performance and you sense he enjoyed the hell out of this. I can easily see a Black Widow film which plays more like Bourne than Bond.

Hawkeye feels short changed and you feel that Renner wasn't totally comfortable playing a superhero.

Downey, Hemsworth and Evans can play their respective characters in their sleep so no complaints there.

My only gripe/s are -

- no memorable score (surely a film like this deserves one)
- loooooong and tedious build-up
- some action scenes feels, for lack of better word, small. Watch it again if you don't believe me but an extended action scene with Cap just doesnt feel epic enough. Same goes for the Iron Man/Thor fight scene you saw in the trailer.
- watch it in 2D instead

Where this will leave you in a big geek piss-puddle:
- one continuous shot of the team fighting
- bromance between Stark and Banner
- Son of Coul
- any scene with the Hulk (he should win Best Fight Scene Ever™ award for final smackdown)
- as mentioned, The Black Widow

Couldn't agree more.

There were so many little (and not so little) Whedonisms like the fighter pilot ejecting out of the plane only to be snapped up immediately or Loki's aborted attempt at 'not being bullied' on the funny side and Coulson's 'they needed someone to...' or Barton asking about the bodycount once he was recalibrated on the not so funny side.

I also liked that while there were references to Rogers obviously still being stuck in the 40s in some respects, Romanov was actually the one he assumed being able to fly a quinjet.

I saw The Avengers (I refuse to use 'Assemble') last Thurs I was dissapointed! A very good 3D film tho. It's a film that will only excite the cast of The Big Bang Theory!

I was lucky enough to go to the first ever fan screening on 14 April in London. It was AMAZING.
Booking tickets for my next viewing on an Xtreme Screen - can't believe it isn't on at the BFI IMAX! :-(

Well my husband and I went to see this at the weekend. Had been looking forward to this ever since seeing the first trailer and even more so since watching Thor! We were not disappointed. From the action scenes to detailed characters to brilliant humour injected all over the place from the good guys and Loki alike it was brilliantly crafted.
Joss Whedon in my books is always a sure fire winner for production or direction - have always enjoyed watching projects he has been involved with and this is no exception. Thoroughly recommend this both for for the huge range of superheroes the action the humour and the plot overall. It's a win win

Personally i feel this film had no substance and turned into a bit of a michael bay film at the end, lets face it the transformer films destroyed enough cities..so maybe they should try and get an original idea. The dark knight rises will beat this box office wise hands down as it shows more than just a CGI set piece. This film lacked substance and as such will always be the film that was a prelude until TDKR comes along and wipes the floor with it
