Favourite cinema

All I'm asking is for your favourite cinema in the world.
I'll start with the Ritz Cinema in Randwick, Sydney. A proper old art Deco ( I think)cinema building with loads of red everywhere inside. Red seats, red curtains and so on. And it had a pub upstairs. It was great.

We had a great old fashioned Cinema called the State in Grays Town Centre, they filmed a bit of Roger Rabbit in there. It had the one screen and kept the old fashioned interior. Sadly it closed down many years ago and has been left to rot. Word was that the growing African population around here was going to buy it and turn into one of their baptist churches. Praise da Lord.

Since we're doing best cinemas in the world, I'll give a shout-out to the Civic Theatre, Auckland NZ. It used to look like this.


Down the bottom you can see lions flanking either side of the stage. Their eyes would glow when the lights went down, then go off during the main feature.



The ceiling of the Civic is done like a night sky with twinkling stars. From the moment you arrive and step in the door, everything is special and magical. The theatre has been used in films like Peter Jackson's King Kong. more Pics of its awesomeness Civic Theatre
I've never seen so much detail right throughout a place, it's phenomenal and unique. It's been years since I've been there but I still remember it fondly.

It's an actual photo, I think it looks that way because it was taken with low lighting (maybe someone's phone-camera). It really does look like that.

I'm hopeful that multiplexes will die a death and cinema going will become more like going to the theatre. Nice surroundings, each different to the rest, chance to get a glass of wine, more of an experience. You'd only go every couple of months to see decent things....

The Odeon in Torquay, poper old school cinema, having to que outside, only had one screen, many a memory.

Really old school cinema. Over 100 yrs old and still one of the country's finest. Cottage road is also a cool little cinema in Leeds.

Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds, it's at the end of my road, it's cheap, and if you sit in the balcony the other patrons respect old school cinema etiquette regarding talking and phones

i'd like to add the Cineworld Cinema in Glasgow, Scotland! it's THE tallest cinema in the world and one of my all time favourite cinemas to go to! they have also now installed D-Box seats which take 3D above and beyond! and i am no fan of 3D myself but it really does add a special something! and not to mention the giant cup holders! c'mon!
