What are your favourite Universal Monster movies?? My two personal favourites are Dracula starring Bela Lugosi and Frankenstein starring Boris Karloff...

Be VERY careful you are on my home turf with this one.

For me it has to be Rear Window, an old hitchcock movie where the monster is a murderer - the movie is basically shot in one room. Excellent, but I would imagine abit boring for todays audience.

Boring for the moronic. Anyone with an ounce of brain would recognise the sheer brilliance of a film like Rear Window.
The killer's not exactly a monster though. There are worse killers out there. If you label Thorwald as a monster, then compared to a serial killer, he's a pretty tame one.

Love the classic Universal horrors. For me the best of them were the ones made by James Whale: Frankenstein, Bride Of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man and the often overlooked The Old Dark House.
Whale brought a sense of style and wit to his films, which make them stand out. The other one which really stands out to me is The Mummy, which creates a sense of genuine unease. Rear Window certainly doesn't qualify as an example of the Universal Horror Film, if for no other reason than it was made at Paramount. |
