World Vs. Western cinema (join the debate)

Hollywood films are produced using a formulaic view on genre and conventions. The freedom of world cinema allows more creativity and expressiveness in film making.

I like Western cinema because in Western cinema you can see good action,good acting with good technology so.

Looking at both western and world cinema, I have to say at the moment I am more partial to world cinema, with the production company Cine Asia have been and will be releasing more titls in the next few months, the martial arts aspect looking at these films are truely amazing, and even though the CGI isn't top quality these are still some of the best films I have seen in a very long time.
With western films alot of remakes and sequels are coming out of the wood works, and with alot of awful films coming from seth rogan, suposedly comedies. But there are a few films coming out over the next few years which i am dying to see, with the advancement in 3D it is going to be an exciting next few years, apart from the news of an apparant Roger Rabbit 2.
And if Seth Rogan makes any more ****ty un-funny films which for some reason the nation love, i might cry.
Also Bruno? What was he thinking, i know thats not the subject at hand but stilll, I cant stand that man.
Ali G, Borat and now Bruno, will he not stop until he has insulted everyone.
Granted Ali G is funny, taking the **** out of Chavs, to me i love that.
But with his two projects after, he should **** off.

But back to the point at hand,
Wester films really need to stray away from remakes, and go back to being original, if it's original they want, they should get in touch with me i will be more then willing to write them something worth making.

World Cinema is making an impressive rise throughout the world and i can see good things coming out of the east.

My hands are tied, but I'm more drawn to World Cinema.

Could someone please explain to me what World Cinema is?

Is it all films that are not from USA? Like films from Australia,Canada,UK,Mexico, Europe,Asia etc.

Or is it all films that are not in english?

What about spanish, french,german productions where they speak english?
Or Passion of the Christ or Apocalypto? Where they don't?

The phrase 'world cinema' is generally used to describe 'foreign' films and 'foreign' language films. The world cinema section in the likes of HMV usually has non-english speaking films. I would refer to 'western' cinema as US/British I suppose.

These days I find that world cinema tends to hold some sort of artistic value that US/studio films do not. The studios churn out blockbusters all the time and, with the exception of a slim few, I tend to watch and forget.

Not wanting to generalise US films or British films. We have produced some greats, however in my opinion they generally come from the indie film makers.

When i watch a film I like to be intellectually and emotionally stimulated whether it is a 'western' film or 'world cinema' flick, and i think that the appeal of world cinema is that they seem less about the money and commercialism and more about making awesome films.

I find it to be a pointless argument to reduce to two halfs. Of course there's going to be more artistic merit and flourish in World cinema as opposed to Western cinema, considering how large the world is and how many varying countries with different beliefs, cultures, languages and conventions are abound. To classify so many nations under one banner and then a few under another is a bit ridiculous, I recently studied some Eastern European cinema and by god there was an awful lot of diversity and styles on offer, and that was just one small part of a single continent. That also generally only the critically lauded films getting releases over here also blurs the truth that every country makes shit films.

Then there's the issue of Western cinema that doesn't get wide distribution, of which there are plenty of hidden gems and plenty of utter tripe. Yeah, it's a bit of a silly argument.
