Frank Borzage is a forgotten name now, but in his time he was much admired – a mystical romantic whose naive sentimentality is redeemed by lyrical intensity.
These two discs present four films from his finest period: three silents – 7th Heaven, Street Angel and Lucky Star, all pairing Charles Farrell and Janet Gaynor – and an early sound film, Liliom, from the play later musicalised as Carousel.
Extras? Vol. 2 only.
