Charles Dickens’ classic novel Great Expectations is being adapted into a film. Again. Not surprising, considering 2012 marks the bicentenary of the author’s birth. At least it’s a pretty gripping story…
Great Expectations follows Pip, an orphan who inherits a fortune from an unknown benefactor and is transformed into a gentleman. But his new life of gentry does have it’s drawbacks, he soon discovers.
This British novel-turned-film will have a cast that features the best of British: Helena Bonham Carter as Miss Havisham, Ralph Fiennes as Magwitch, Robbie Coltrane as Mr Jaggers and Jeremy Irvine as Pip.
Great Expectations is a tale of love, wealth, darkness and hidden truths, and with a cast like this one, let’s hope the film lives up to the high standards of the novel (not to mention the David Lean adaptation).
Great Expectations opens on 30 November 2012. Leave your comments at the bottom of the page.
