Talk about bad timing: conceived before Shrek was even a glimmer in a silicon graphics machine, but only thrown into proper production after the first movie stormed the box office, 3D tooner Happily N’Ever After finally arrives, looking like a cheapo knock-off of DreamWorks’ ogre. Sure, it boasts Sigourney Weaver vocally hamming to the hilt as a wicked stepmother who means to magically meddle with famous fairytales, while Sarah Michelle Gellar brings oomph to handmaid heroine (Cinder)Ella. But when the CG looks as shoddy as an instructional film at a museum and the story’s an overplayed postmodern joke, decent voice work counts for zilch.
