
Greta Scacchi scored her breakthrough role in this 1982 Merchant-Ivory effort, re-released as part of a 20-strong M&I collection. Playing a newlywed colonial whose behaviour creates a rumpus in '20s Raj, her demure sex appeal supplies the heat. The dust comes from James Ivory's direction, which is too dry and genteel to conjure any real passion.
