Hitchcock, based on a non-ficiton novel by writer and screenwriter Stephen Rebello, gives a detailed looks at the making of the thriller classic Psycho (1960).
As well as revealing a fly-on-the-wall close-up of Alfred Hitchcock’s masterful direction, the film also depicts the life of the influential filmmaker through his personal relationships with his wife, Alma Reville and several of his frequenting stars.
As a director, this is only Sacha Gervasi’s second project, however, teamed with his script writing and producing skills seen in The Terminal (2004) and The Big Tease (1999) respectively, Gervasi has experienced every side to filmmaking, much like Hitchcock himself.
The script for Hitchcock was also written by John McLaughlin, whose former works include Black Swan (2010). Teamed with an all-star cast, the biopic appears to be a strong contender for the Oscars.
Anthony Hopkins is set to star as the master of suspense (jowly prosthetic chops and all), alongside Helen Mirren as his wife, Scarlett Johansson as Psycho-screamer Janet Leigh and Jessica Biel as Leigh’s on-screen sister, Vera Miles. The cast also includes Toni Collette, Ralph Macchio and Danny Huston.
This is not however the only Hitchcock film in the making. British director Julian Jarrold has also created The Girl, portraying Sir Alfred’s relationship with actress Tippi Hedren. Battling for the title of best Hitchcock portrayer, both directors are set to provide excellent, and differing, adaptations of Hitchcock’s life, although The Girl is a HBO production, and will not be getting a cinema release.

Hitchcock opens in the UK on 8 February 2013.
