This early salvo from veteran arthouser Patrice Leconte is the first in a trilogy of gaudy seaside romps whose characters are now indelibly etched on the French national conscience (think the Carry On gang gone Gallic). Translated as The Suntanned Ones, it follows a libidinous gaggle of day-glo sex tourists to the Ivory Coast. Worth a look as a quaint curio, it comes across something like a kitsch fever dream by French novelist Michel Houellebecq.
