Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted review

Film description

The first Madagascar film to be released in 3D, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted sees the return of lion Alex, zebra Marty, giraffe Melman – and yes, the penguins.

This time around the ex-zoo animals are still on a mission to get back to the comfort of their New York City zoo.

Trekking through Europe, they find the perfect cover by acting as performers in a travelling circus, which they give a Madagascar-style twist.

With Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith returning, new additions to the voice cast include Frances McDormand and Jessica Chastain.

When the threequel’s trailer debuted at the, uh, tail end of 2011, it hinted that the film would contain as many sight gags as its predecessors – and, of course, the penguins looked primed to steal the show once again.

Total Film caught the film at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, where we were (pleasantly) surprised to discover that it contained a number of trippy psychedelic sequences.

We also caught up with the movie’s cast, where Chris Rock revealed he quite fancies doing a guest stint on Lena Dunham’s TV series Girls.

Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted heads into cinemas on 19 October 2012. Will you be in the audience? Tell us below
