A companion piece of sorts to Wag The Dog, Barry Levinson’s satire sees TV talk show host Robin Williams running for president on a truth ticket and – thanks to a glitch – actually winning. Laura Linney and Christopher Walken bulk up the cast and it’s a worthy idea, but its provocative potential is left untapped. Instead, Levinson heads down a safe corporate-conspiracy route. True, the director gives Williams the same room to improv he relished on Good Morning, Vietnam, but makes all his social and political points with a sledgehammer rather than a sleek dagger.
