A palatable period rom-com with a fanciful take on history, Molière was aptly billed here as the French Shakespeare In Love. Romain Duris (The Beat That My Heart Skipped) flaunts copious tresses and smiles knowingly from beneath a musketeer ’tache as the titular 17th century dramatist. Director Laurent Tirard exploits a hole in Molière’s biography, whipping up a tale of infidelity and cross-dressing as the imagined inspiration for the scribe’s farces. A saucy, pretty-looking romp that’s accessible without need for a French literary primer.
