Brit thesp Damian Lewis yaks about his new film
27 Mar 2006 9:11am
We’ve all heard the old one about keeping it in the family, but this is ridiculous.
Damian Lewis – best known for Band Of Brothers, An Unfinished Life and (whisper it) Dreamcatcher, has grabbed himself a role in new film The Baker. And how did he get the job? Er, his brother Gareth is writing and directing it. Okay, so it’s not nepotism, more a chance for the sibs to work together. “Gareth wrote and will direct The Baker,” says Lewis, adding, “I am just getting my head around being bossed about by him as one of his actors.”
The plot follows a hit man (Lewis) who has an attack of the brain-wrongs while on a job and flees to a remote Welsh village to hide out. When he’s mistaken for the new baker, he’s forced to assume the identity of a master bread-slinger to stay alive. But then he discovers that he really enjoys the job. At least until a ruthless former colleague comes to find out why he didn’t finish the assassination job.
The Baker also stars Michael Gambon and Kate Ashfield and has just started shooting on location in South Wales. Expect a major tie-in with Mr Kipling’s cakes. Or maybe not.
