Good-guy Kevin Costner reinvents himself competently in this sheeny, grisly but over-plotted thriller, as the icy business-mogul-and-serial-killer Mr Brooks. Sadly, no amount of solid work from him, William Hurt or the slyly watchable Dane Cook can salvage a film featuring Demi Moore as possibly the world’s only maverick-cop-cum-multi-millionairess. Director Bruce Evans expresses his longing to make, “an adult movie for once” in the extras, which may explain the explicit murder sequences.
