Ever wanted to know how Kong became king of Skull Island? The producers developing a new prequel to the giant ape tale hope you do.
Spirit Pictures have grabbed up the rights to Kong: King Of Skull Island, which was written by Joe DeVito and Brad Strickland and published around the time Peter Jackson was working on his Kong pic.
It doesn't look like Jackson is involved in this one - and he's a bit busy these days anyway - and Spirit is looking to create the thing using the motion-capture system so beloved of Robert Zemeckis.
So what would it involve? The book tracks Kong's rise to power, and will boast more dinosaurs and other giant apes, so be prepared for some giant mammal rumbles.
The company got the rights after hashing out a deal with original Kong co-director Merian C Cooper's estate. "We're very concerned with honoring Merian C. Cooper's legacy in Hollywood," says producer Steve Iles. "We want to make sure that whatever we deliver will honour his memory."

How the hell will this work? The idea of the first one was you had human characters on the island and that was the story you were following. If its just a story of kong becoming the king of said island won't you need a speaking monkey, or something as it'll just end up being a film of continuous fight scenes!

Remember? There are natives to the island. The film could have really compelling characters following an Apocalypso-type action feel. Now that would be awesome!

It could star Mario, and Kong could throw barrols at him, just that for fours hours running time.

really. . . i mean even if they did have solid script you'd only get the handfull of numpty's that went to see 10000bc anyway because altho Kong looked ace and with the exception of the T-REX everything that was supposed to be a dino or giant bug or bat monkey thing looked 100% pooh pooh. and no my friend apocolypto style would not be good at all however a documentary would be sweet if they get sir Dave involved . . .

I love Kong, the 1933 film is fantastic. Please can they not just leave it well alone now? Who cares how Kong got to the island, or why, or even who with?
