Abbie Cornish set for RoboCop remake

She’ll play Alex Murphy’s wife

RoboCop looks set to add another notable talent to its steadily growing cast list, with Abbie Cornish reportedly in talks to play the widow of the late Alex Murphy.

Cornish will play Mrs. Murphy, who is led to believe her husband is dead having been killed in the line of duty. What she doesn’t know however, is that he’s been brought back to life as the cyborg law-enforcer, RoboCop.

Cornish will join Joel Kinnaman as RoboCop himself, while Samuel L. Jackson was recently added to the cast as powerful media mogul, Pat Novak. Gary Oldman is also attached as the scientist who brings RoboCop into being.

With the primary cast beginning to come together, hopefully some plot details will soon follow. At present, all we know is that Murphy dies and is turned in to RoboCop, leaving us wondering what kind of threat he’ll be facing in the villain stakes.

Directed by Jose Padilha from a script by James Vanderbilt, RoboCop will open in UK cinemas on 9 August 2013.Hopefully we’ll get a Dredd-style teaser poster, sooner rather than later...

Is Cornish a good fit for this one? Thoughts below, please...

I absolutely fell in love with Abbie Cornish after watching her in Candy and no not even the awful Sucker punch has put me off

It seems like this remake might focus more on the emotional side of the story, if casting his wife this early is any indication.

This is just another instance of Hollywood wrecking something beloved. I want to believe that this will be a good movie, and I want it to turn out to be good, but it is just not in my to believe with all the bad remakes coming out. Soon they'll be remaking Back to the Future. Why can't they just create their own heroes. http://www.videodetective.com/movies/back-to-the-future/208#.T9fIrdWWeJQ No one will be laughing when they cast Michael Cera as Marty
