Yes, The Prince is coming to cinemas. And no, we don’t mean that the diminutive, purple one is looking to get back into film. It’s a thriller penned by writer Dave Kalstein that production company Intrepid Pictures has snapped up.
The plot finds a prep school student falsely accused of plotting a Columbine-style attack on his fellow students. But after he’s released from prison, he emerges with a fresh new identity and a burning desire to wreak terrible revenge on his old friends, who set him up.
Sound familiar? "It's a modern-day Count Of Monte Cristo set in New York's jet-set society," Kalstein told The Hollywood Reporter. So at least he’s acknowledging the source. That, and the fact he spent most of his academic life getting kicked out of posh schools exactly like the guy in the screenplay. "It's set in a culture of privilege and youth and ambition," Kalstein added. "Part of what's enjoyable about the film is watching Paris Hilton and her type of crowd get what they deserve." Well, we’re sold.
The film should be set up and shooting by late 2007.
