Amanda Peet finds disaster in 2012

She’s nabbed the female lead in Roland Emmerich’s next…

Not content with hunting down paranormal weirdness in this summer’s X-Files sequel, Amanda Peet has decided that what she really wants to do is survive an apocalyptic event.

She’ll play John Cusack’s ex-wife in Roland Emmerich’s 2012, and in a move that has shades of Emmerich’s own Independence Day, Peet is  the Margaret Colin to Cusack’s Jeff Goldblum, with the pair re-connecting as the planet teeters on the brink of total destruction.

Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover and Oliver Platt are all aboard, and Emmerich will start shooting in July provided the actors aren’t all on strike. The Hollywood Reporter is watching events closely.
