American Office writers penning Ghostbusters 3

Columbia commissions a new installment

If you were to tell us that the Ghostbusters would really, actually, officially be strapping on the proton packs again, we wouldn’t be ready to believe you. In fact, we’d have thought you possessed by a slavering terror dog.

But nope, it’s true. Yes, Columbia has actually ordered a pair of writers – co-executive producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky of the American Office, no less – to begin scripting a new entry in the Ghostbusters franchise, according to Variety.

And, if all goes to plan, the new film will aim for either a reunion of the old gang of Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson will return or launch a new team.

They’re waiting to see the finished script before attempting to seal deals with the actors, but it’s the most hopeful sign yet.
