Anchorman 2 gets the green light

Ron Burgundy is back!

It's the news we've been waiting to bring you for a good few years now, and finally it's happening: Paramount has agreed terms with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay to give the green light to Anchorman 2!

The news was confirmed by Ferrell himself, who appeared in character as Ron Burgundy on Conan O'Brien's talk show, and revealed that a deal had been struck with the studio. He also took the time to lay into the host with a string of well-aimed insults.

You can take a look at Burgundy's big announcement below…

Reportedly, McKay had initially pitched the sequel as an all-out musical, only for Paramount to turn the idea down. Whether or not that musical element has been revived remains to be seen, but the good news is that several of the original cast are set to return.

Steve Carell and Paul Rudd are the first to officially confirm, with David Koechner, Christina Applegate and Fred Willard also expected to sign on the dotted line. Judd Apatow is also on board to produce.

No release date has been revealed as yet, but in the meantime, we're just going to bask in the knowledge that this is happening at all. Dust off those leather-bound books and throw on some jazz flute… Ron Burgundy is back!

The only movie that Ferrell was really funny in, but by god that was one of the funniest. Please don't f**k this up.

If it's half as good as the original it will be better than the endless stream of sh*t comedy films being realeased at the moment (unless it is a musical).

Great news - neat-o! I really hope the whole '80s storyline I've heard rumoured might be the plot - would be hilarious to see Ron et al coping with a whole new decade!

It will be really difficult to make this work. I think a few of the cast members are too famous now plus there'll probably be a bunch of overblown celeb cameos due to the brilliance of the first movie. I would love it to work though.

@Dalidab try not to take this personally ;), but the fact that you hate Anchorman and the announcement of a sequel makes me very happy indeed. I love Ron Burgundy!

The first film made me feel i am getting old and losing touch with Comedy or a sense of humour as everyone says how funny it is, and how wonderful Will Ferrell is too! but I just can see it, I've not laughed at any of his movies! I've not seen them all, but Anchorman was just boring to me! I wouldnt say it was s**t, I just don't get the humour and that worries me (it also worries me that Dalidab doesn't like it either)

You can have your opinion dalidab, I just said it worries me that your opinion is close to mine, and you are a very offensive person that I would hate to have any kind of opinion that is close to one of your opinions. Just my opinion

There is some bible quote about the end of the world, or sinners in the hands of an angry God moment to reference here, but it would not even be worth the energy. Why does the Anchorman need a sequel? Will Ferrell was a comedian that fell from grace all too quickly after his first film. Anchorman, while funny and well written, was essentially one big long Saturday Night Live skit. How often did film makers truly believe that this formula could be pulled off successfully? Every film Will Ferrell has starred in has been of declining quality, with the exception of Stranger Than Fiction, and now film makers want to retread on something that does not bear fixing or repeating. This is the perfect example of Hollywood's inability to leave well enough alone. The Taxi Driver sequel is now no longer the most absurd idea for a sequel. http://www.videodetective.com/movies/the-hangover-part-ii/207189 This is what happens when no one leaves well enough alone. A less intelligent rehash is the most likely scenario for this film. A miracle may happen, but the track record of Will Ferrell movies speaks for itself.

I never understood the appeal of Will Ferrel. I didn't really see any movie he was in that was actually funny. Megamind to some degree maybe. And the 1st Anchorman was just... i don't really want to use any strong words here so let's just say not my cup of tea.
