Brokeback Mountain duo Ang Lee and screenwriter James Schamus will adapt gay-themed memoir Taking Woodstock from Elliot Tiber’s 2007 autobiographical book.
Set in the Summer of ’69, the story sees a closeted artist helping his aging Jewish parents run their motel in the Catskill Mountains, when he allows something called the ‘Woodstock festival’ to be held on his neighbour’s farm.
Cue a rock concert to change history, as music, free love and rebellion rule. Lee’s ensemble drama zeroes in on the moment Tiber walked into the Stonewall Inn — and witnessed the riot that would galvanize the gay movement in America.
We’re sure Jake Gyllenhaal is just waiting for the phone to ring...
