A new shot of Karl Urban as bad-ass law enforcer Judge Dredd has been revealed online.
The first image of Urban suited and booted appeared online last November, and this second image confirms the campy frills of Sly Stallone’s 1995 Dredd are well and truly dead.
Directed by Pete Travis and co-starring Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey, this new adaptation of the comic has Dredd attempting to control the feral streets of Mega City One.
And Urban looks suitably sinister as the no-nonsense Street Judge, with his Dredd promising to be a darker, neo-noir vehicle that is truer to the original comic.
Check out the full image below…

Dredd has yet to receive an official UK release date.

so, TF, what exactly is it about this image that 'confirms the campy frills of Sly Stallone’s 1995 Dredd are well and truly dead.' ? the fact that there is only one light on? the fact that it isn't Stallone? what?

He still looks like a bobblehead. I really want this to be great, but this image isn't what i was hoping for, and a previous photo of Dredds lawmaster just looked cheap.

OK panic over, I re sized the helmet in Photoshop, http://twitpic.com/5s2cz1 All they have to do now is re size it via CGI for the whole film.

Say what you like about Sylvester Stallone, at least the man had a chin. Why is it that when the only visible part of a comic book hero's face is his jaw film studios always seem to cast an actor whose face seems to blend seamlessly into his neck? i.e., virtually everyone that's played batman.

Unlike these idiots, I think the new Dredd is fine. Anyone saying that Stallone's Dredd was good does not have any intelligence to recognise stupidity when they see it. I look forward to the new Judge Dredd movie.

I can't wait for this! The 1995 version was awful, not only was Stallone too big a star to play Dredd, he took his flippin' helmet off 20mins into the film! Where's the mystery to the character? Dredd's appeal was that you didn't see his face and he was all about the letter of the law, once "Joe" took his helmet off it became yet another typical Stallone action movie. I love the new look and Urban isn't as well known, so the character of Dredd can have more room to breathe, Urban doesn't bring as much baggage to the role as an actor, so he'll (hopefully) be more like Dredd, rather than Stallone pretending to be Dredd. And, yes the helmet seems over-sized but to all of you complaining about that, I say: go dig out your old copies of 2000 AD and see how some of the artists depicted him in his heyday ... over sized helmet was quite common. I thought the helmet on Stallone's verison was too small and tight, it looked to shiny and too much like a comic book, Dredd should be more gritty and real in my opinion.

@trist808 Meow. Hmm. Having minimal exposure to Dredd before and given who's playing him this time, I...hm. We'll see. Interesting...
