Ant-Man takes on Batman Vs Superman’s old 2015 release date

Marvel move in on DC's territory

Marvel has taken advantage of the Warner Bros’ delayed Batman Vs Superman movie and moved up the release of Ant-Man to 17 July 2015.

Edgar Wright’s comic-book adaptation of Ant-Man, starring Paul Rudd as the title character, with Michael Douglas recently announced in a supporting role as original Ant-Man Hank Pym, was supposed to be released on 31 July 2015.

But with Batman Vs Superman getting pushed back to 2016, that left a slot open earlier in the year and Marvel has claimed it by bringing the release of the film forward by two weeks.

Ant-Man will now be released in cinemas in direct competition with Joe Wright’s liva action Peter Pan film (for which it was recently announced that Tron: Legacy star Garrett Hedlund would be playing Captain Hook).

Meanwhile, the current release date of Batman Vs Superman – 6 May 2016 – means that it's set to go head to head with an as-yet-unrevealed Marvel Phase three film (possibly Doctor Strange). Although, it is expected that Marvel may now move this to another slot in the year...

Are you glad to see Ant-Man two whole weeks earlier than expected? Let us know below...

I amazed Marvel would want to release two major motion pictures within two months, rather than space them out over the year, considering they only release two films a year. It'll be a loooong wait for the next film after Ant-Man! (Still, very excited for this in June 2015 and Avengers 2 in May 2015!)

They released Thor and Captain America 2 months apart in 2011, and they didn't do too shabby. My only concern for Ant-Man at this stage is Paul Rudd to be honest. Now comes the long wait for a trailer...

Cool, Ant-Man is far more interesting that POS 2. And that's not a typo....

@endofdays, that is an image from the test footage Wright shot about a year (maybe longer) ago, to showcase how Ant-Man would look/work on screen. It featured him shrinking and beating up some random bad guys in suits. It was very rough but showed so much promise that it cemented Wright as the director and convinced Marvel to greenlit/go ahead with the film.

Hopefully Marvel do the sensible thing and move their Phase 3 movie out of May in 2016. Unless of course it's a solo Hulk outing then they might have a chance of making a dent in MoS2's box office.
