Apocalypto in legal bloodbath

A Mexican director is claiming Mel Gibson ripped off his film

Just when Mel Gibson was hoping his troubles with the law were largely behind him, he’s been hit with a claim by Mexican director Juan Catlett that many scenes from Apocalypto are lifted from his 1989 film Return To Aztlan.

You might think that this is just another chancer trying to gouge some cash out of a successful Hollywood production, but Catlett has a stronger case than many – he claims that Gibson’s manager requested a copy of his film to watch while Apocalypto was shooting. Now Catlett is looking for his due – and has kicked off a lawsuit against Malibu Mel.

The case will continue.
