Avatar 2 gets a new screenwriter

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles creator signs on

James Cameron has recruited a new screenwriter to work on the script for Avatar 2, with The Wrap reporting that Josh Friedman has signed on to the project.

Friedman was responsible for creating TV spin-off Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, so Cameron clearly feels the two are on something of a wavelength.

Cameron himself has been working on the scripts for the two Avatar sequels for the last four years, and so looks to have recruited Friedman to bring a fresh approach to the material.

At present, Friedman is only thought to be working on Avatar 2, although the two sequels are supposed to be filming back to back, so it would be a surprise if he didn't then move on to the third film.

According to Cameron, filming will begin early next year ahead of a 2015 release date for Avatar 2. That would seem a touch ambitious, given the technological work involved, but this latest appointment does at least indicate that things are moving forward…

What are you hoping to see from the Avatar sequels? Tell us, below!

It's always a good idea to get your work peer-reviewed.

I hope it doesn't cause any more people feeling depressed due to the graphic beauty of the virtual world making our reality look grim. Please convince the viewers Earth is beautiful (and real, which Pandora isn't ), because many of us don't understand it, although it seems obvious. I think the action should continue on Earth to make the whining human beings strongly associate the main idea of Avatar with Earth, not some other planet, as many of them still fail to do so. That was the mission, right? So make some changes to get the idea across to those who get too distracted with the graphics and special effects. Such films are created to make us take action to preserve and improve our world, not wish we could move to a different one. I understand that no place is better or more beautiful than Earth because I love watching documentary movies about our nature. They can be watched at some sites (such as Viewster) for free, but who cares to search for such things? It's not popular. Most people just watch blockbusters and panic. The sequels to Avatar could make them realize that Earth is better than Pandora, and preserving its nature is better than dreaming of different worlds.
