Avatar 2 and 3 could be shot back to back according to heavyweight director James Cameron.

While discussing various projects with MTV this weekend, Cameron talked about the possibilities of the Na’Vi follow-ups.

He confirmed that, though we know Pandora's oceans will be involved, he won’t even pick up a pen – or, alright, load up Final Draft on his PC – until the projects have officially been greenlit.

“We don’t start the movie until we get the deals worked out,” he sensibly explained, before adding that he’s not “sitting idle” – he’s currently making notes and working on the Avatar novelisation.

Meanwhile, he also spoke about the back to back shooting possibilities, stating:

“That is something that makes a lot of sense, given the nature of these productions, because we can bank all the [motion] capture and then go back and do cameras over a period of time…

“The way these back-to-back productions fall apart is that you’re trying to do two live-action films back to back, and you’re working on it for a year and a half, shooting.  Everyone is dead.  It’s not humanly possible.  This type of film, it absolutely would work.”

Think this could work? Talk to us…

In cinemas this week...

I can only imagine his meetings have been going along the lines of... "Look, Jim, we know Avatar made a lot of money, and we're grateful, but the script was shocking. How about you write the sequel, then if it's any good we'll greenlight it, yeah?" "No." "...Yeah, alright, just make sure it makes a shedload of cash again, OK?"

At least he acknowledges that most back-to-back sequels have been c**p. Now he just needs to realise that 6-legged beasts don't make up for a cliche-ridden script.

What the hell is PyaPal? Im not flush with burmese money. Anyway IM guessing the next one will be called Avatars, which will probably feature baddie na'vi... No doubt Lihujin will be floggin it on the pavements of Oxford Street with knock off perfume come release day.

This is a great idea! two movies shot back to back, itll help with story cohesion and it will mean we dont have to wait for 3 years for part 3 to come out. Look how good parts 2 and 3 were of both the Matrix and Pirates of the Caribbean. Oh hang on they were dross. If your raeding James, try not to put the lead in mortal peril at the end of the 2nd sequel every one knows he will be back for the third!

Avatar has to have been one of the most overated pieces of bile in the history of motion pictures. Perhaps James needs to look at the following film and take notes - it might jog a few memories... http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1000617-aliens/
