Barbara Broccoli confident she can bring Sam Mendes back to Bond

Although maybe not in time for the next one

Sam Mendes may have ruled himself out of directing the follow-up to Skyfall, but that doesn’t mean producer Barbara Broccoli has given up on convincing him to return.

In fact, Broccoli has been bullish in stating her intention to convince Mendes to reverse his decision, if not for the next film than at least to return further down the track.

“We will get him back,” says Broccoli. “We haven’t given up hope... maybe not for the next one… but we will get him back again.”

“We are working on him," confirmed Broccoli’s fellow producer Michael G. Wilson. “We hope that maybe he will have gotten inspired to come back.”

As for Mendes himself, he has left some room for manoeuvre should he want to return at a later date. “I’ve definitely left the door open,” he says. “I’ve never really repeated myself, done the same type of movie one after the other, so just give me a chance to think about what I actually want to say.”

MGM is planning to release Bond 24 within the next three years.

Am i the only one who wasn't blown away by Skyfall? It was a good film, but i don't think i'd want Mendes to direct another. After the first 10 minutes the action scenes weren't anything spectacular.

I thought it ranks as one of the best - for me it wasn't about the explosiveness of the scenes rather the incendiaries of the characters. That's what, for me at least, set it apart from the rest. I'd put it on par with Casino Royale.
