Battleship, Universal's big blockbuster hope for 2012, has unveiled a full-length trailer.
Unlike the first one, which took its time establishing the the slightly contrived backstory - Taylor Kitsch is boffing the daughter of his commanding officer Liam Neeson - this one goes all-out with the action.
In shifting the focus, it also offers a reminder of the boardgame that it's based on, not least with the opening shot of the alien vessels lurking in formation in the depths of the ocean.
There's a fairly strong Transformers vibe permeating this trailer, but the set pieces do look suitably epic (and numerous).
We also get a glimpse of the aliens themselves, or at least their mecha-suits, and Rihanna gets a few lines of dialogue this time around. Best of all is the moment when Alexander Skarsgård's face goes all wibbly-wobbly from the shockwave of an explosion.

Agreed, this is looking far better than I expected (admittedly though, I didn't expect much at all). I'm a Peter Berg fan so have my fingers crossed.

if this is a success then we can expect a glut of boardgames based films, Oliver Stone's Monopoly Starring Michael Douglas as a ruthless property tyc**n trying to buy up all of London, Bryan Singer directs Cluedo featuring Hugh Jackman as Colonel Mustard and Megan Fox as Miss Scarlett , or Sam Jackson starring in McG's Snakes and Ladders,tag line "get these motherf$&!*ng snakes off my ladder". If one or more of these end up getting made then I expect the cheque in the post..

Battleship looks terrible. Summer blockbuster 2012 is shaping up quite nicely with the likes of Dark Knight Rises, Total Recall, Spider-Man, Prometheus, etc. But this won't be on the cards as a good film, I can just tell. best, Martyn Conterio www.cinemart-online.co.uk

Ugh... I feel bad for Tyler Kitsch. This & John Carter? FNL will all be but a distant memory, his name & bomb will soon go hand & hand. BTW was that an Australian flag i saw? Don't mention us in this c**p, were better than that.

Why even call it Battleship? Although... @Joe Maybe the main character can say it as he kills an alien leader in a low growl... That would be great and terrible.
