BBFC bans The Bunny Game

Extreme horror film latest to be refused certification

The Bunny Game is the latest horror film to be banned by the BBFC.

The intense torture movie stars Rodleen Getsic as a drug-addicted prostitute kidnapped by a truck driver and subjected to a gruesome ordeal. The BBFC has a rejected the film meaning it won’t be released on DVD in the UK.

In a statement issue the BBFC said “The principal focus of The Bunny Game is the unremitting sexual and physical abuse of a helpless woman, as well as the sadistic and sexual pleasure the man derives from this.”

While BBFC director David Cooke clarified, “It is the Board’s carefully considered view that to issue a certificate to this work, even if confined to adults, would be inconsistent with the Board’s Guidelines, would risk potential harm within the terms of the Video Recordings Act, and would accordingly be unacceptable to the public.”

Trinity X, who picked up The Bunny Game in Cannes has been invited to resubmit the film with cuts, though the BBFC has emphasised there’s no guarantee it’ll be passed even with cuts.

This decision follows the recent announcement that the previouslyrejectedThe Human Centipede 2 would be getting a release on 4 November after a re-cut version was submitted.

The Bunny Game Director Adam Rehmeier commented "Rodleen and I didn't make 'The Bunny Game' to glamorise prostitution. It is far from an erotic film. It is a modern cautionary tale grounded in reality."

While Trinity X co-director called the decision “disappointing, worrying and sad”.

So there you go – one more torture porn you’ll have to knock of your Christmas list.

@dalidab1982 - this is your comment on the Human Centipede II a few days ago: "The Human Centipede 2 has just received a 18 cert by the BBFC with 32 cuts in total. I knew it would be released in the uk some how. so what was all the stupid fuss about it been banned in the first place. god the dumb & thick BBFC get me sooo annoyed its unreal. I am still looking forward to seeing it though. :)" So if I can understand your comment above, the BBFC are doing a good job if you've seen the trailer and decided a film is sh1t. But a bad job if you've seen the trailer and decided you'd like to watch it?

For once I'm actual in agreement with dalidab; another c**p torture-porn movie that will only get seen due to all the hullaballou it purposefully (IMO) caused. I blame reality tv!

Once again dalidab flips a coin and makes his opinion. Visiting these message boards is becoming more and more like Groundhog Day. It seems to me that this film is purely appealing to those who live for the gratuitous Tom Six fan club. Riding on Kubrick's coat-tails without ever understanding the original concept. R.I.P Clockwork Orange.

Eh, whatever. Maybe they were making a statement, maybe they weren't. Does it matter? A Serbian Film ALLEGEDLY made a statement, but that movie is just... awful. (Allegedly. I haven't seen it, but there's no way I'd like it). I say that if A Serbian Film passes with cuts, I don't see why this (probably awful) film won't.

Agreed on the Groundhog Day comment.. unfortunately that does extend to the abuse that dalidab gets. I totally understand how/why it happens as I've been guilty of doing it myself but it's getting as boring as his opinions, which he has every right to express. Just let him say his piece and ignore it or pick out the bits that do make sense (if there is any). I'm starting to feel a bit sorry for him as every time he says anything, even if it is actually a coherent comment he just gets called a c**t and stupid. Can't we all just get along?

You have a point, he hasn't said anything really pervy/especially dumb though this week so maybe he's turned over a new leaf? Joking aside I think the autistic sufferers' cinema thing he's doing's actually pretty cool, I don't like the guy but fair play to him for that.

First I've heard of it but kind of sounds more like a snuff film than a horror. Bit like Human Centipede in the way that things seem to be attached to strange sexual fetishes than fearful horror. I don't have any desire to watch either film really. Neither seems or sounds like they're at the forefront of intelligent movie making but I could be wrong I suppose.
