Moulin Rouge director Baz Lurhmann is taking his time prepping his adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic The Great Gatsby, but the film’s cast is coming along nicely.
With Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire already confirmed, the director’s now approached Ben Affleck for the novel adap.
Affleck is currently weighing up an offer to play Tom Buchanan, the husband of Daisy (Mulligan). Meanwhile, DiCaprio has bagged the titular Gatsby, and Maguire is narrator Nick Carraway.
If Affleck decides that he’d like to be part of the adap (and with a cast like that, who wouldn’t be tempted?) he’d have to find time in a busy schedule that's already taken up with his next directing gig Argo.
Based on the 1979 hostage crisis in Iran, Argo will be Affleck’s third turn as director after the well-received Gone Baby Gone and The Town.
Filming on Great Gatsby will kick off this August in Sydney, with Lurhmann reportedly shooting the film in 3D.
Great? Or awful? Think Affleck would make a fine addition to the cast, or should he stick to directing? Drop us a comment below...
