When John Travolta was recently cast as John Gotti in upcoming gangster flick, Gotti: In The Shadow Of My Father, the question on everybody’s lips was who would be playing his son?
That question has now been answered, with The Mechanic’s Ben Foster confirmed as John Gotti Jr. He will join a cast that includes Al Pacino and Kelly Preston, and will re-team with his director on Liberty Heights, Barry Levinson.
“Barry Levinson was the first director who took a chance on me,” said Foster in an official statement. “I have a career because of him. I am deeply honoured for the opportunity to work with Barry and the amazing cast he is assembling to help bring the story of the Gotti family to the screen.”
Variety reports that Levinson is currently hard at work re-writing the script originally penned by Analyze This writer Leo Rossi. The project has not been without its share of troubles, with Joe Pesci (once cast to play Gotti’s second-in-command) filing a lawsuit against the production over a pay dispute.
The film will follow the trials and tribulations of “Dapper Don” John Gotti, the boss of New York’s notorious Gambino crime family. The real-life John Gotti Jr. is serving as a consultant on the project, which is set to begin shooting in January.
