Ben Foster joining Ridley Scott's Prometheus?

Alien prequel also gets a vague official synopsis

Prometheus, Ridley Scott's sorta-prequel to Alien, is shaping up to be one of the most exciting movies in production, and there's a rumour doing the rounds at JoBlo that Ben Foster has joined the cast.

The film already boasts a raft of talented actors, including Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Michael Fassbender.

Foster is something of a divisive actor, with his ker-ay-zee schtick proving a bit wearing at times. His presence could also bring back unwelcome memories of substandard space shocker Pandorum.

Prometheus has also been given an official synopsis, which is possibly the most vague blurb of its kind ever seen.

The virtually detail-free summary goes as follow:

"Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe.

"The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery."

Prometheus is due to land in cinemas on 1 June 2012, and is a rare release that we're actively excited about seeing in 3D.

So, which Ben Foster camp do you fall into? Is he annoying same-y, or the best unhinged psycho of his generation? Enter the debate below…

Give him a break, he was under-used (thanks to Ratner missing the point) in X-men 3, the best thing in The Mechanic when he out-performed Jatham (not a stretch)... The problem with this film is that Scott can't decide what he wants it to be, is it a prequel or a stand alone epic? Some clarification would be nice, instead of the usual "Ohh well it sort of is, but not really...but kind of.." Argggh!

Foster's been quality in everything I've seen him in tbh, he was the best thing about Pandorum and he's brilliant in 3:10 to Yuma and Alpha Dog.

Having watched Ben Foster in several works from TV's Six Feet Under, 3:10 to Yuma, Pandorum & most recently w/Jason Statham (The Mechanic) plus several others, the guy plays the same whacked out note. I watched despite Foster, as he was never my reason for viewing in the first place. Maybe being underused is how he should be employed. As for chances, I have given them to him - I even foolishly thought he might choose to turn corner after his Yuma rôle - having put his worst traits to their best performance. AND for all that, I will see PROMETHEUS despite the inevitable Ben Foster bag of trick [sic].
