Billy Crystal talks Monsters, Inc. prequel

Monsters University is “college pranks with monsters”

Billy Crystal has been working so hard on the prequel to Monsters, Inc. that it's brought out the animal in him - he's become a little hoarse. (Thank you, we're here all week).
“I spent five-and-a-half hours today for our fourth session on Monsters Inc. 2,” he told an audience at a 20th anniversary screening of City Slickers. “That’s why I’m a little hoarse.”
Seriously though, the 63-year-old actor said he was really enjoying working with John Goodman again: “We’re having a blast together. It’s really a great script, it’s really funny.”
The prequel film is called Monsters University and sees Crystal and Goodman return to the roles of Michael 'Mike' Wazowski and  P. 'Sulley' Sullivan.
“The Pixar people are geniuses. It’s 10 years since the first movie. Yeah, it’s crazy. And it’s a prequel. They’re in college. It’s how they met, it’s how Michael and Sully meet, and plan to become scarers at Monsters, Inc. So this movie ends where the other one starts,” Crystal revealed.
“It’s college pranks with monsters. And I wear a retainer. Mike has a retainer.”

Was a prequel the right way to go with the Monsters, Inc. franchise? Or would you have preferred to see the further adventures of Mike and Sully following on from the first film? Have your say below...

After the flat Cars 2 and next years distinctly average looking Brave I feel a little concerned that Pixars box o ideas might be running a bit thin. This year has felt like there has been no summer Pixar release because Cars 2 could have been made by any animation house, Brave also looks like something a Pixar competitor would make (it looks and sounds closer to How To Train Your Dragon than a Pixar feature), and now another sequel!?! It might be brilliant like the first Monsters Inc, but where has Pixars originality gone all of a sudden?

Good to see Crystal back on the big screen, albeit voice only.
