Brad Bird shakes up 1906

He’ll direct the live-action earthquake pic

It’s been rumbling (har har) for a while, but Brad Bird has lined up some powerhouse studio support for his first foray into live-action films.

He’s been wanting to work on 1906 - a drama/thriller set around the 1906 San Francisco earthquake - since before he made The Incredibles at Pixar, but now with Oscars for that and Ratatouille under his belt, he truly has the clout to get 1906 off the ground. Warners are joining with Disney/Pixar to fund the movie, which sees a college student looking into his father’s murder and ends up discovering a conspiracy linked to the city’s infrastructure and massive fire problems caused by the quake.

The Hollywood Reporter is covering the story.
