Brosnan and Gilliam to judge TCM movie comp

A sackload of stars and film buffs announced as 2006 short film panel

Once again, the TCM Classic Short Film competition has cast its net into the heavily protected waters of cinema and trawled in a highly impressive catch of judges for its 2006 flick-fest.

This year, former 007 Pierce Brosnan and ex-Python Terry Gilliam will work alongside Vera Drake star Imelda Staunton, Full Metal Jacket’s Matthew Modine and Withnail And I actor Richard E Grant.

The competition prides itself on unearthing new film talent in the UK - offering up £10,000 of prize money along with the experience of having your film judged by our very own Editor-At Large Matt Mueller, who sits alongside the names mentioned above on this year's panel.

Jane Lloyd scooped the top spot last year and has recently had her short snapped up by David Gray, who will use an edited version for his new single Alibi.

The 2004 winner was Harry Wootliff’s movie Nits which hoovered up a BAFTA nomination. 2001 winner About A Girl and 2002 entry Brown Paper Bag both went on to snatch nods in the BAFTA nominations.

The competition is open to all UK made short films and entries must be received by the 1 September 2006. If your flick is shortlisted, it’ll be aired during a special weekend of programming on TCM and also shown at the 50th London Film Festival in November, where the winner will be announced.
