Bryan Singer boarding a Galactica pic?

Rumours have him approached to direct...

BY James White Aug 13th 2009 6:06AMFILED UNDER: Movie news

The new TV take on Battlestar Galactica has barely finished across the pond, but it seems like Universal might be ready to give it another cinematic shot.

And who does Drew McWeeny over at HitFix think they might be approaching? None other than Bryan Singer.

Singer, of course, has a history with the Battlestar: he and producer Tom DeSanto were spinning up the FTL drives on a backdoor pilot for a new series on the US Sci Fi Channel when 9/11 happened and it was shelved.

A lot of time has passed since then, and the show was taken over by Ron Moore and David Eick and became something glorious - if decidedly low-rated.

Which might be why the film studio - which cranked out a deal with original creator Glen A Larson to retool the concept once more on the big screen in February - is looking for some hefty film players to get it off the ground.

Now, Singer isn't signed by any means - he's only just now being approached. And there's no evidence that he'll be shooting it soon.

But while a new film might be an intriguing idea, we're not sure the world is ready for yet another take just yet. Still - for now, file this one strictly under rumours...

I'm all for a big screen version eventually, and I would have no problem if Singer directed it. But they need to let that world rest for a bit so the excitement can build again. In short, it's too soon.
