Having reported last week that Matthew Vaughn had stepped down from directingX-Men: Days Of Future Past, we suggested that Fox would probably move quickly to replace him, with an eye on the film’s tight production schedule.
Sure enough, the studio have found themselves a new broom, with Bryan Singer officially confirmed to occupy the director’s chair. Welcome back, Bryan!
Singer directed the first two X-Men movies, and also worked on the script for Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class. He brings a wealth of experience to the table, and will likely be a fan-pleasing appointment. More fan-pleasing than Brett Ratner, anyway.
The reasons for Vaughn’s departure remain undisclosed, but he will be maintaining some involvement with the project in his role as producer.
The majority of First Class’s cast are expected to return for Days Of Future Past, with the film set to open in the UK on 18 July 2014. We’ll look forward to hearing from Singer in the coming weeks.
