Cannes 2009: Bowie is a Basterd

Five days ahead of the movie’s Cannes debut, Quentin Tarantino’s unveiled the soundtrack listing to his WWII opus, Inglourious Basterds.

As any Quent fan knows, he never just slings these things together, and the selection’s as personal and eclectic as Dogs, Pulp or Bill.

Typical of QT, there are several nods to cult film history: David Bowie’s ‘Cat People (Putting Out The Fire)’ from the soundtrack to Paul Schrader’s 1982 Cat People remake; and the title cut from 1972 exploitationer Slaughter.

There’s a strong spaghetti flavour to the playlist too – courtesy of veteran Dollars Trilogy composer Ennio Morricone. Music to our ears…
