Captain America: The First Avenger gets another new trailer

“Congratulations, you just got promoted”

Marvel’s latest superhero movie Captain America: The First Avenger is out next month, and they’ve just released a brand new trailer to remind us all about it.

Unveiling a slew of new footage, this new look at the movie delves further into the sequence of events that leads to weedy Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) becoming the shield-flinging hero.

The emphasis here is firmly on two things: character and explosions. There are beats for everybody, including Stanley Tucci, Hayley Atwell and Tommy Lee Jones.

The only person we don’t see much of is Hugo Weaving’s villainous Red Skull, who is still being kept mostly under wraps.

Marvel is playing a clever game with this trailer – whetting the appetite with some great looking stuff, while only hinting at things like Red Skull to keep audiences wanting more.

Frankly, it’s working. The only niggles are an odd rocky soundtrack and a silly-looking mid-swing kiss between Evans and Atwell that recalls Star Wars.

Check out the new trailer below…

Captain America: The First Avenger opens 29 July 2011.

They've absolutely nailed the Steve Rogers character. Let's hope they also get it right with Red Skull. Also seen the US TV spots which are full of extra action shots and the fight scenes look tremendous.

Hahaha, ChrisWootton, theres always one. Yeah, this looks a much safer bet than Green Lantern, which was sadly a dissapointment

2011 has been a pretty underwhelming summer for blockbusters.

Really? A superhero who uses a gun? Why bother dressing up?

Ali1748 - I see what you're saying. I feel The Dark Knight changed the game and increased the expectation levels for any summer blockbuster thereafter. But, not really complaining about The First Avenger from the footage we've seen so far - it seems to have all the ingredients for a great summer blockbuster- good cast, story, action, emotional core, vfx, etc.

To be fair Chris, Captain America is set in a very different time, back in WWII, the Americans were still percieved as the "good guys", and Steve Rogers reflected the best of them. It's not like nowadays where there's so much anti-American feeling. I think if you look at it in context as the period piece that it is, you might find it's enjoyable. This was always going to be a major sticking point for translating Cap's story to the big screen, he's a man of his time ... his time being 1940's America when everyone was (supposedly) still linnocent. What will be even more interesting is when he's a total fish out of water in modern times in The Avengers ... I think he'll be disappointed the direction his beloved country has taken in his absense and that's kinda the point with the character, he represents everything that is good about the nation and it's ideals. Hadouken, he's a soldier first and foremost, it's wartime, and at this point he's not actually a "superhero", so as a grunt, serving in the armed forces, of course he's got a gun ... in the comics it was only in the 60's once he was thawed out, joined The Avengers etc that he ditched weaponary and went soley with the shield. Cap shot and killed Nazi's in the comics back in the 40's along with The Howling Commandos ... they were trained for combat, so from what I've seen so far they are sticking very close to the source material ... my apologies, I did not intend this to become a Dalidab-length posting ... hopefully I've come across more intelligent than everyone's favourite 'tard but feel free to comment otherwise if you wish :)

It's nice to see a long post that isn't completely barking mad, Trist, nicely summarised.

Haha puny CGI chris Evans is hilarious, I'm not sure I can take this film seriously, I know it's a comic book franchise, but c'mon, that's funny!

I could record myself on the toilet for two hours and match up and do better than the Green Lantern film.
