Mad Max: Fury Road has been lingering in development hell for quite some time now, but according to star Charlize Theron, filming is set to begin on the project as soon as 2 June.
Pre-production on the film began way back in 2009, when Theron and Tom Hardy were signed to pick up the reins from the departing Mel Gibson. A location had been found in Australia, and filming was set to begin in 2010.
However, torrential rains meant the area was no longer suitable for Mad Max's sun-blasted locales, and director George Miller was forced to announce that the film would be pushed back until 2012.
Since then, things have gone pretty quiet, save for the transport of some of the film's souped-up vehicles to a new location in Namibia. Now, however, it seems that things are fully up and running, with Theron confirming cameras are set to roll in just a couple of weeks time.
The positive side of the massive delay is that it freed Theron up to star in Prometheus and Snow White And The Huntsman, roles she would previously have had to turn down. So if filming does indeed go forward as planned, it might all have worked out for the best…

I like the fact that it isn't a remake/redo/rethink and just another story. I can really see Hardy as Max..

This might sound like blastphemy to some people but Mel didn't actually do that much acting per se in the Mad Max films, he just looked cool... Hardy should be able to take it over well.

Yet another sequel/reboot to an old film? On the plus side, it's the original director, and Hardy is a good choice as the lead.

Erm didn't Tom Hardy just tell Empire that he's got no clue about what's happening with this ?

@Mcserious Yes your quite right! need to let go of the old for something new. Besides the cars are the REAL stars of these films! The "last V8 Interceptor" has always been my dream car. I live on the isle of man and someone over here actually owns the original car from the first movie! have seen it drive past on rare occassion. would die happy if i owned it :->

It might be like The Bourne Legacy, the title referring to a famous character without the presence of said character. So Hardy could be playing a bounty hunter searching for Max (last scene cameo by Gibson). Wishful thinking on my part.

We could end up with a Duke Nukem forever scenario with this one. All that time in development hell is not good for a film or game. Still, it has a good cast and competent director so there is a good deal of hope for this one. I just have a sinking feeling because of how long this was in limbo. http://www.videodetective.com/games/duke-nukem-forever/838837#.T76C2-uWclc

This will be good no point in bringing Mad Mel back, he was good in the first two, I agree with TKC the third was awful and look what happened to RAMBO/ROCKY/DIE HARD all mediocre movies in there own way and perfectly watchable with your brain switched off on a wet weekend but nothing compared to the earlier films. The world of Mad Max is a good one to carry on and I for one shall look forward to it immensely!

I didn’t dislike Rambo or Die Hard just preferred the earlier movies. I think Rocky 1 as much as I love it is probably quite a hard movie to enjoy but there you go everyone has there own taste don’t they.
