Chris Evans on Captain America's Avengers costume change

Reveals Captain America 2 due in 2014

Chris Evans might be promoting Puncture at the moment but you know what online journalists are like, all we care about are comic-book movies and girls.

Thankfully, Chris has been happy to illuminate us about the former. But not so much on the latter.

When pressed about the changes to Captain America's costume we've seen in the set pictures cropping up on that darn Internet, Evans told The Playlist: “The first (costume) was a 1940s look, very utilitarian, something that would serve a purpose on the battlefield."

"But in The Avengers, Joss just had a certain vision in his mind about what he wanted Cap to look like."

"That’s what he wanted to see. It’s so nice working on these movies and the director’s a fan. He’s the dude at Comic-Con that we’re terrified of pissing off. If Joss is happy, I’m happy.”

Evans was also fairly frank about the chances of him showing up in Iron Man 3 or Thor 2 or any of the other Marvel films currently in the pipeline.

“Out of those six films, if I pop up in one of those (other films), it counts as part of the deal."

"So if they needed me in a third Cap, and I say, ‘Fuck you, give me $30 million.’ Well… they want to avoid that.”

As do we, Chris. As do we.

And Evans even seemed to confirm Captain America 2's release date.

“They may wait until 2014 until they release the next Cap.  Marvel has a lot of balls in the air, they aren’t going to cannibalize their films.”

Puncture is in US cinemas now, and will be released in the UK later this year. Avengers is out 4 May 2012 and Captain America 2 will be out in the summer of 2014 (apparently).

this costume looks terrible... cheap and cheesey. this is exactly the kind of c**p they managed to side step with cap's costume in the first avenger... the cracks in the Avengers are already beginning to show. c'mon, do we REALLY think it's going to be as good as any of us hope?

It's the 'Julia Roberts clause' in his contract. It states: The party of the first part must be allowed up to fourteen costume changes per movie. Where the script allows, it must take the form of a montage. In this instance, multiple sets of clothes will be tried on whilst the soundtrack plays a lively hit from the 60's.

Hey guys, love your site, but all those quotes are our original quotes, not Collider's, I'd appreciate a link (and then feel free to delete this comment). Not sure who to email there, but if you'd like to email it's theplaylist AT gmail DOT com. Cheers, keep up the good work.

Not massively taken with that costume, although the picture may not show it off to its best advantage.

Has anybody seen the tie he's wearing in 'Puncture'? It's awful!

They are two types of fans out there. The phony ones that judge the movie to be bad based on a candid internet picture. And the real (smart) ones that understand how different things look on a candid picture and a post-produced motion picture. When you leave a comment, ask yourself which type of fan you want to be. Otherwise, you run the chance of being well, an idiot. Like jimmer83 for example.

ALL superhero costumes look terrible in broad daylight. You know why Batman only operates at night? He looks stupid when the sun's out.

This costume was always gonna run the risk of looking cheesy, it's the nature of the design of the damn thing. Personally, I think it looks fine, straight out of a comic book and will no doubt look great when seen in context in the film, with the proper lighting and editing. Evans managed to pull off the other look, I think this will work (IMO) :-)

Good thing hes got a shield cause he'll be the guy most villians will be aiming at vivvid colours work in book , animation and maybe 1960's television - bet the other actors were thinking 'thank goodness that aint me ' and im including the CGI hulk as well ! not to sound like a fashonista but they shouldve gone for a darker blue ? maybe theyll tone it down in post-productioin ..
