Christian Bale rules himself out of any Justice League movie

Looking forward to seeing a new vision for the character

With Man Of Steel running riot at the global box office, a Justice League movie is looking ever more likely to happen. However, the project will have to find a new Batman should it get the official green light.

Christian Bale has been talking about the possibility of a DC team-up movie, and as far as he's concerned, he's hung up the cape and cowl for good.

"I have no information, no knowledge about anything," says Bale. "I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it."

"It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another," he continues. "So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with. We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy."

It would have been a massive surprise had Bale decided to return to the role one more time, but having officially ruled himself out, its time to start thinking about who could take his place. Make your suggestions in the comments below…

Who would you like to see play Batman? Tell us, below!

I'd like to see a completely re-imagined take on the character, just for a change. Not a guy wearing millions of dollars worth of body armour, but something more like in the great short film 'Dead End'. Give us something new, and it could be much more interesting.

No surprise there but I think Bale and Cavill would work well together. As for who I want to replace Bale I'd like to see Jake Gyllenhaal be the next Batman. Anyone but Armie Hammer!!!!!!!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, surely. With Batmans speech about the suit being a symbol and that anyone could do it, means they could make a JGL based origin film about him becoming the new batman, then follow it up with a Justice League movie with him as bats. Then for whatever reason, there would be another film where Bruce Wayne is required to return. While I'm here, lets have Wonder Woman's Amazonian heritage explained as descendants of an ancient Kryptonian outpost, and WW herself meets a young Bruce Wayne as he travels the globe learning a*s kicking off different peoples. Then she goes looking for him, only to find him gone. Spars with JGLs batman. Steals the batwing, now with new improved cloaking mechanism in place. Meets superman. Learns of heritage. Joins the good fight. Job done. Just sorted at least four films out for DC there. You're welcome.

Lol SCURF a like it. What a don't like is the thou of another batman actor. I've seen every batman since the original from when a was a lil boy an av got to say Bale has got to be the best, he needs to stop being melodramatic an face up to the fact he is the batman an he could make do many more films with the help of justice league!

Perfect. Bale was never "the" Batman to me, anyway (that title is reserved for the animated Batman). As for who dons the cowl next, I'll let them surprise me.

For continuity I would like to see JGL as he was basically handed the cape at the end of TDKR, but that means no Bruce Wayne. Which isn't a bad thing as I don't think we should see alter-agos in The Justice League. Just get down to the fighting. Going to see Man of Steel tonight (at last) so I may change my mind and decide the whole idea should be dropped!!

I've always wanted Wentworth Miller for Batman. Some choices are obvious however DC needs to go for inspired choices for their universe.

Dont make it, its a rubbish idea, Superman is a god, what is batman to him? Its like teaming up with a banana. And if anything bad happens Superman can fly backwards round the sun and reverse time. Yawn. Give Jaden Smith the job and have done with it!

NO JUSTICE LEAGUE MOVIE! or if they feel they MUST make a JL movie, leave Batman out. Chris Nolan rebuilt Batman's tarnished movie reputation after B&R. If a JL movie is done, all i can see is Batman getting shafted yet again. Batman does not live in that world anymore, he lives in reality with us. Compare a CN Batman movie and Man Of Steel, and hopefully you will see that those two character's can not stand together on the same screen. I say let Joseph Gordon Levitt have a crack as Batman/Nightwing/Robin and continue Batman's independent story, instead throwing him in some half arsed, over exaggerated spin-off, and destroying everything Nolan has built. Also if you noticed i think JGL is possibly getting set to come back to the franchise as in recent trailer for Don Jon, he has gained quite alot of weight, coincidence? Personally I'm a big fan of Joesph Gordon Levitt and would love to see him have a crack at being the Bat.

I've always wanted to see a 'Batman Beyond' or 'Of the Future' attempted, but I fear it could be a Green Lantern! However I think that if you test the water with the character in a Justice League movie where it isn't solely focused on Batman they could do something very special. The animated movies and features are already fantastic and It would mean a totally new approach for the character.

Reading these comments I have a few issues that really bug me, 1. Many of you are saying Superman wouldn't work in a Batman world as he has superpowers and Batman doesn't, surely Joss Whedon, proved that people with superpowers and without could coexist in the same universe and be successful. 2. JGL being handed the cape in TDKR is b******t, it was purely a fanboy nod from Nolan!!! So stop going on for him being Batman its never gonna happen.

Really wish you would stop talking about a f*****g Justice League movie. It took years of rubbish Batman films etc before they found the right formula. And now? Just because a bloated, over rated, immature piece of s**t called The Avengers raked in the money due to its appeal to 4 year olds, we are going back down the road of making it camp and stupid. So very, very bored of this insane drive to pander to morons and make brain dead, nothing movies just to make executives rich (and they already ARE very rich by the way). The Justice League movie is a s**te idea. And man of steel was half a good movie and half a terrible movie so hardly the basis with which to start wetting ones pants in anticipation of a movie that unites Superman with a diluted family friendly Batman. Christian Bale has done the smart thing - savour the Dark Knight trilogy and let the reality tv crowd get on with making s**t films

I doubt Nolan's Batman will be connected. Whether it is or not, wouldn't it be awesome if Wayne enterprises found the remains of Zod's suit, reverse engineered it, created a new suit (think Batman Beyond) for The Batman. If this is connected to Nolan's (which it will not) , Wayne could give JGL the suit and fight with the Justice League. Or how about a Batman Beyond style early, instead of 80 years in the future, have an injured/middle aged wayned directing Terry or Dick Grayson. Batman Beyond Batman fits better than a regular Batman in this sci-fi Man Of Steel Universe.

You could clearly see Marvel had a proper solid plan to make The Avengers and it worked out very well for them. DC are desperate to replicate The Avengers success with The Justice League but they never laid down the proper groundwork. Its too late for them to make a good JL movie. All its gonna be is a sloppy mash up of heroes that dont gel in a movie sense. Basically its gonna be c**p.

Here's a though - Completely Shelve a JL movie. Don't destroy Nolan's solid reconstruction of batman or p**s on the brilliant man of steel , go ahead and make stand alone movies . Marvel got the formula right , it would be good to see DC not just copycat but prove they can make brilliant stand alone movies instead of teaming characters up

How about this for a Justice League cast roster: Henry Cavill as Superman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Batman (I know what he said, but unless Christian Bale reconsiders, they might as well not include Batman), Olivia Wilde as Wonder Woman and Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Hal Jordan.

Forget what JGL said I doubt Warner Bros will really consider him for Batman. Just because Nolan ended TDKR with him discovering the Bat Cave doesn't mean the studio will want to pass the torch on that way.

Ok, I love that this thread exists because I've been waiting to tell the world my dream cast of a Justice League Movie. I will note first about the above question as to who would take the cape and cowl next of Batman, and it is....Josh Brolin. I think he could do a great job as Bruce Wayne and even better as a Batman and now to do the entire cast. Batman/Bruce Wayne - Josh Brolin Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent - Jon Hamm Wonder Women/Diane - Jamie Alexander (Sif of Thor) Green Lantern/Hal Jordan - Jake Gylynhaal Flash/Barry Allen - Michael Fassbender (Magneto in First Class) Aquaman/Orin/Arthur Curry - Brad Pitt Martian Manhunter/John Jones - Tom Hardy
