Columbia get Cool

Studio shells out for first-timers teen flick

Here's a cockle-warming tale proving that Hollywood hasn't lost all its motivation to be a dream factory - especially if they think they can make some wedge from your idea.

Those astute suits at Columbia have snaffled up a pitch from newbie author Alex Sabeti. The story follows a high school geek who manoeuvres through his tricky social existence via the classic Sun Tzu novel The Art Of War.

The Art Of Cool was picked up for $600,000, rising to $850,000 for a spec script.

Not bad going for a fella working as a temp the day Tinseltown came knocking.

Eric Gold will be holding the purse strings for Mosaic Group - who had a hand in Elf, The Brothers Grimm and the upcoming Vince Vaughn/ Jennifer Aniston chuckler The Break Up.
